Hours of Operation

Cedar Lakes is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as on holidays. Last admission is at 4:30 p.m. We are open 7 days a week to members. To schedule a guided tour or for questions about visiting the gardens on a day closed to the public, please call Manager Lori Wallace at 352-529-0055.

Garden admission includes a brief description and history of Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens and a self-guided tour through 20 acres of botanical creations. A map, drawn by Dr. Webber himself, is available at the welcome center. The trails are well-marked. It typically takes visitors about an hour and 45 minutes to complete their walk (depends on a visitor's pace). There are many benches and resting areas along the way. Visitors may stay as long as they choose and we highly recommend bringing a bottle of water and maybe even a picnic!

For the enjoyment and safety of all our guests and rescued animal companions, alcohol, pets, glass, and fishing poles are not permitted.

Swimming is NOT allowed in any of the quarries on the property in which Cedar Lakes Woods & Gardens resides. While Dr. Webber did allow swimming prior to the opening of the gardens to the public, it is a public safety concern. Alligators often frequent the lakes in front and our swans own the quarry within the gardens. We appreciate your understanding.

Handicap Accessibility

We are unfortunately NOT handicap accessible. Please allow us to explain...

The gardens are built into a limerock quarry, so there is a very steep ramp to access the lower levels. That said, we have some wonderful overlooks along the upper trail. It is not perfectly level throughout the entire trail, so it would be a strength challenge for someone pushing a wheelchair.

We do have accessibility ramps to get onto the overlook trail that circles the quarry rim. This view offers scenery of the lakes and gardens beneath. The overlook trail has a few small inclines and an occasional patch of rugged surface, so accessibility is very much dependent on the design and size of the wheels on one's mobility scooter/wheelchair. Guests have visited with several different models and successfully ventures through the overlook trail.

While we do allow anyone to venture to the lower level of the gardens, we emphasize that strong help and confidence is needed to use this ramp with a wheelchair or similar mobile device.

We can offer guided tours to guests with need of assistance, but require at least 48 hours notice.

The restrooms are considered wheelchair accessible, as they were built more recently with wheelchairs and powerchairs in mind.

Please consider bringing a picnic to enjoy of the many overlooks. We also sell water and other beverages at our welcome center.
